SS 446 pipe is a ferritic non heat treatable stainless steel that provides good resistance to high temperature oxidation and corrosion. It can be easily welded by using most of the traditional methods except oxyacetylene welding. The machinability is possible at slow speeds with positive feeds, sharp tooling surfaces and rigid mounts. ASTM A268 Tp446 forging can be started at 1149°C and completed at 871°C. In order to gain grain refinement and room temperature embrittlement the last 10% of forging has to be performed below 871°C. Due to the high level of chromium content it is difficult to cold work as compared to other stainless steel. ASTM A268 Tp446-1 annealing has to be soaked at 816 °C and then water quenched and at any time the temperature should not exceed 900 °C and cooling slow below 649. It is used in applications such as annealing boxes, furnace parts, oil burner components, boiler baffles, glass moulds etc. Stainless Steel 446 Pipe hot working has to be performed at the range between 1093-1177 °C. And the last 10% of hot working should be performed below 871 °C to gain grain refinement. 446 Seamless Pipe has better pressure capacity, high strength compared to welded pipe. So it is widely used in thermal, high pressure equipment and boiler industries. And the easiest way to check whether the pipe is seamless or welded pipe is to simply check the stencil on the surface of the pipe
